Hi, I’m Molly Mickey
I'm a therapist in San Clemente specializing in therapy for preteens, teens, and young adults — and I became one because I've lived it.
My parents divorced when I was three, and I spent much of my childhood in and out of therapy. As a teenager, I hated it — the last thing I wanted was to open up to a stranger about my feelings.
Then, as a young adult navigating anxiety and depression during COVID, I decided to try again. It was transformative. I learned to feel empowered by my emotions and past experiences rather than ashamed of them. I became a therapist because I believe in the process — and I want to help others find what I found.
Why I Became a Therapist
WHY I’M DRAWN TO WORKING WITH TEENS
I especially love working with preteens and teenagers (ages 10–18). There's something I find deeply meaningful about this stage of life — it's messy and hard and full of so much change, and teens deserve a space that's fully theirs.
I offer a non-judgmental, pressure-free environment where teens can feel safe, have a sense of control, and show up exactly as they are. I support teens navigating anxiety, depression, social challenges, ADHD, divorce/separation, and identity development — while helping them build insight, confidence, and tools they'll carry into adulthood.
I also work with young adults and those healing from trauma, and I find it deeply meaningful to help clients get to the root of their experiences and move toward a life that feels more like their own.
My style is flexible, curious, and strength-based. Whether it's our first or fiftieth session, I put you in the driver's seat. I don't make assumptions — you're the expert of your own story, and I follow how you show up that day.
I'm deeply interested in how our brains and emotions interact, and I weave psychoeducation throughout our work together. If you can name it, you can tame it. I use approaches rooted in EMDR, ACT, DBT, CBT, and I'm actively pursuing further training in various other modalities.
Warmth and accountability aren't opposites — my warmth creates the safety you need to be honest with yourself, and that honesty is where real growth happens.
How i work
When we begin working together, I lead with curiosity. What brought you here? Have you tried therapy before — what worked, what didn't? What are you hoping to get out of this? I want to understand your story, the people who shaped you, and what feels most present for you right now.
From there, we build something that actually fits your life.
what to expect
what I hope you take with you
A deeper understanding of yourself than when you started. Life will keep changing — jobs, relationships, circumstances — but if you understand the way you show up in the world, you build something lasting: confidence, healthier relationships, and the tools to keep growing long after our work together ends.
Curious if we’d be a good fit?
I offer free 15-minute consultation calls for all new clients. It's a low-pressure conversation — a chance for you to share a little about yourself and what brought you here, ask any questions you have, and get a feel for whether working together feels right.
No commitment required. Just a conversation.
