highly sensitive people

You've probably been told you're too sensitive. That you need to toughen up, not take things so personally, or stop letting things get to you.

But what if sensitivity isn't something to fix?

What it means to be a Highly Sensitive Person

Being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) isn't a diagnosis or a disorder — it's a trait. Research suggests about 15-20% of the population is wired this way, with a nervous system that processes information more deeply than others.

HSPs tend to:

  • Feel emotions more intensely than others around them

  • Be deeply empathetic — sometimes absorbing others' feelings as their own

  • Notice subtleties in their environment that others miss

  • Get overwhelmed by sensory input — noise, crowds, bright lights, strong smells

  • Need more downtime to decompress after stimulating situations

  • Think deeply and process experiences more thoroughly

  • Be moved deeply by art, music, nature, or meaningful connections

  • Struggle with criticism, conflict, or feeling misunderstood

This depth of processing is a genuine gift — but without the right understanding and tools, it can also lead to chronic overwhelm, anxiety, and exhaustion.

I get it — because I'm one too

I identify as a highly sensitive person, and it's shaped both my personal life and the way I work as a therapist.

I know what it's like to walk into a room and immediately absorb the emotional temperature of everyone in it. To need days to process a difficult conversation. To feel things so deeply that people around you don't always understand — and to wonder if something is wrong with you because of it.

Nothing is wrong with you. You're just wired differently. And once you understand that, everything starts to shift.

Sensitivity as a strength

Here's what I want you to know — the same traits that make life feel overwhelming are also what make you deeply intuitive, creative, empathetic, and attuned. HSPs make incredible friends, partners, artists, caregivers, and yes, therapists.

The goal of therapy isn't to make you less sensitive. It's to help you understand your nervous system, protect your energy, and build a life that works with your sensitivity rather than against it.

For parents of sensitive kids and teens

If your child has always been "a lot" — deeply emotional, easily overwhelmed, intensely empathetic — they may be a highly sensitive child. Sensitive kids thrive with the right understanding and support, and therapy can be a game-changer in helping them understand themselves before the world convinces them something is wrong with them.

I work with sensitive teens and preteens as well as adults, and I bring both clinical training and personal experience to this work.

You deserve a therapist who actually gets it

A lot of HSPs have had therapy experiences where they felt like too much — too emotional, too complicated, too intense. That's not what therapy with me looks like.

I offer free 15-minute consultation calls for all new clients — a low-pressure conversation to talk about where you are and whether working together feels right.

No commitment required. Just a conversation.
