EMDR Therapy
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR — Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing — is a research-backed, highly effective therapy for healing trauma and distressing life experiences. It may sound clinical, but the experience is anything but.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works by helping your brain do what it was actually designed to do — process and integrate difficult experiences so they no longer feel so raw, present, or overwhelming. Through guided bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), EMDR helps "unstick" memories that have been stored in a way that keeps you feeling stuck, reactive, or disconnected.
Who emdr can help
EMDR is particularly effective for people experiencing:
Trauma or PTSD — both single events and complex, ongoing experiences
Anxiety, panic attacks, or persistent worry
Emotional reactions that feel bigger than the situation warrants
Childhood wounds that show up in your adult relationships
Overwhelming memories, flashbacks, or intrusive thoughts
Low self-worth or deeply held negative beliefs about yourself
EMDR is widely used with adults, and for the right teen it can be a powerful tool as well. During our consultation we'll talk openly about whether EMDR feels like a good fit for where you are right now.
What an emdr session is like
EMDR isn't something we dive straight into. We begin with preparation — building trust, developing coping tools, and making sure you feel grounded and safe before we go anywhere near the harder stuff. You're always in control of the pace.
Once we begin processing, sessions follow a structured protocol while leaving plenty of room for what comes up for you specifically. Many clients are surprised by how much can shift without having to talk through every detail of what happened. Your brain does a lot of the heavy lifting — I'm there to guide and support you through it.
Is EMDR right for me?
EMDR isn't the right fit for everyone, and that's okay. The best way to find out is to have a conversation. I offer free 15-minute consultation calls where we can talk about what you're carrying, what you've tried before, and whether EMDR — or another approach — makes the most sense for you.
No commitment required. Just a conversation.
