children of divorce & Family separation
When family looks different than it used to
Divorce/separation changes everything — the house you live in, the holidays, the group chats, the way your parents talk to each other. And somewhere in the middle of all that change, it can be really hard to find solid ground.
Maybe the divorce happened recently and everything still feels raw and uncertain. Or maybe it happened years ago and you're only now starting to understand how much it shaped you — your relationships, your sense of security, the way you show up in the world.
Wherever you are in that journey, you don't have to figure it out alone.

I understand this more than most
My parents divorced when I was three. I grew up moving between homes, navigating split holidays, and carrying a complicated mix of emotions I didn't always have words for. I was in and out of therapy as a kid because of it.
I know what it feels like to love both of your parents and still feel caught in the middle. To feel like you have to manage everyone else's feelings before your own. To wonder what a stable, secure relationship even looks like when you didn't always see one modeled growing up.
This work is personal to me — and I bring that understanding into every session.
What children of divorce often carry
Growing up in a divided family can leave marks that aren't always visible from the outside. Some of what I commonly see in clients navigating divorce:
Feeling responsible for your parents' emotions or happiness
Anxiety about conflict, instability, or abandonment
Difficulty trusting people or feeling secure in relationships
Loyalty conflicts — feeling like loving one parent means betraying the other
Anger, grief, or numbness that's hard to explain
People-pleasing or perfectionism as a way to keep the peace
As a young adult, patterns in relationships that trace back to what you witnessed growing up
You may have been told you're "fine" or that the divorce happened so long ago it shouldn't still affect you. But the truth is, these experiences live in us longer than people expect — and they deserve real attention.
What we'll work on together
Therapy gives you a space to untangle what you've been carrying — without having to protect anyone's feelings or pick a side.
Together we might explore:
Processing the grief of the family you had or wished you'd had
Understanding how your family dynamics have shaped your patterns and relationships
Building a stronger sense of identity that isn't defined by your family's story
Developing tools for navigating ongoing conflict between parents
Learning to set boundaries and communicate your needs — without guilt
Finding stability and security within yourself, regardless of what's happening at home
For parents reading this
If you're a parent who is separated or divorced and you're concerned about your pre-teen/teen — reaching out is one of the most loving things you can do. I work in a way that respects your teen's privacy and keeps them in the driver's seat, while making sure you feel informed and supported in your role too.
I also understand that co-parenting situations can be complicated, and I'm experienced in navigating those dynamics with care and without taking sides.
You deserve a space that’s just yours
No matter what's happening at home, therapy is one place where none of that has to follow you in. It's just you, your story, and the space to finally process it.
I offer free 15-minute consultation calls for all new clients — a low pressure conversation to talk about where you are and whether working together feels like the right fit.
No commitment required. Just a conversation.
